How The Downsizers Help:
Downsizing with Dignity, Tom & Judy
Tom and Judy had lived in their 3,400 sq ft Durham home for four decades. The property also included a garage, two storage sheds, and an outbuilding that Judy used as a dedicated art studio. Without children or local family members to help, they faced the monumental task of downsizing for a move into a 1240 sq ft apartment in a Continuing Care Retirement Community.
Daughter and Executor of Estate, Hannah
When Hannah’s father passed away, she was named Executor of his estate—and suddenly responsible for the emotional and logistical burden of clearing the family’s 4,000 sq ft home in Chapel Hill. Her father had lived there for 37 years, and every drawer, closet, and cabinet held decades of memories.

“Kindness, compassion, patience, competence, and professionalism is the brand I associate with The Downsizers. Elizabeth Hirsh has successfully embodied these values in her selection of team members and JE Ladd movers. Everyone did an outstanding job. I would always hire The Downsizers and there is not one person on the crew I would not have back. Tears of joy for my dad and me."
Leigh S., daughter of client, Pittsboro
"Hiring The Downsizers was one of the best decisions we ever made! Moving under any circumstance is extremely stressful but with The Downsizers help and guidance the process was so smooth. The staff was so thoughtful about and sensitive to our wants and needs, especially about things that had sentimental attachment. So amazing on move day to walk into our new home and it felt like home, everything unpacked and put away, boxes removed and pictures on the wall! We love The Downsizers!
Don S. & Marcia A., client from Morrisville

"I was genuine in my great appreciation for all you and your team did. I have yelled the name of The Downsizers to anyone who is even contemplating a move as I simply couldn’t have done it without you all. Emily was amazing in the kitchen and I can find everything I need — a miracle. Kristi did such a great job clearing out the house (they’re painting it as I write this and hopefully it will go on the market in two weeks). But all of you, Sarah, Sophie, Jaqlyn were fabulous."
Kit F., client from Chapel Hill

"It's a journey from your current home to your new home and they provide the bridge. The bridge from old floor plan to new floor plan. The bridge from too much stuff to the stuff you need in the new home. There are exit ramps for consignment stuff and donation stuff, all coordinated by the very competent team. For seniors especially, they help you begin to be realistic about your new digs and situation as they are working with you to plan the move. They have probably worked with your new location before and can provide additional guidance about the facility.
